TEXAS HILL COUNTRY AND INTO SANTA FE

On our last day in Texas, Ruth starts the day off with a Texas style waffle.

We start the drive from Austin to Santa Fe in 100F heat!

Outside of San Antonio we stop at the home of our friend's, Dot & Bill.

After a lovely lunch we continue our journey.

The big hill country of Texas is a sparse expance of sand, rocks, and cactus.

These "poles" that appear on the horizon aren't for telephone wire.

They are windmills producing electricity. We see hundreds of them for miles, dotting the landscape.

Trees also appear throughout the hill country. What crop could they be producing?

We pull into a roadside store to find out. These people must be experts!

Ruth investigates.....
could it be chiles?

There it is, the biggest crop in Hill Country!
PECANS!

We finally reach New Mexico...
or maybe Hollywood?

Our Santa Fe motel offers a great view of the sunset.
Tomorrow we will check out the city.

  1. Seeing those electric-producing windmills in the middle of "OIL COUNTRY" makes one pause to ponder . . . . . . .!!!!!
